Message from the Pastor

There is plenty to do in most churches.  Members keep busy with a wide variety of activities and events most of the time, and the calendar stays full.  And if you are a leader in the church you have responsibilities to keep up with on a monthly, weekly, or even daily basis.  In the midst of all these activities and responsibilities, we can sometimes forget what we are trying to accomplish with this expenditure of our time and energy in the first place.  So, once in a while it is helpful for churches and church leaders to pause, step back, and ask a few questions:  "Why are we here?  Why are we doing this?  What is our purpose?"
The United Methodist Church has an answer to these questions which applies to every local church in the denomination.  The basic mission of our church is to
Make Disciples for Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.
Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations....".  This is our purpose and reason for being.  THis is what we are to do.  All of our work in evangelism, education, missions, social justice, worship, and even administration, revolves around making becoming and being disciples of Jesus Christ.  For a couple of years now at Elizabeth Lee, we have been reminding ourselves of our purpose.  It helps, now and then, to remember why we are here.
